The cement sector is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions due to the huge volumes produced. With the rising needs for concrete for new buildings and infrastructure, this sector has an important responsibility in reducing carbon emissions with innovative technologies.

This includes using more efficient materials e.g.by reducing the clinker-to-cement ratio, lowering the cement-to-concrete ratio, switching to lower-carbon fuels, improving energy efficiency, and improving design methods to reduce the use of concrete overall in efforts to reach near-zero emission production across the sector.

The KliK Foundation financially supports such mitigation activities in the cement sector under Article 6.2 by buying the resulting ITMOs.

Benefits

Participation in the KliK Foundation LC3 activity includes:

  • Geological support to identify suitable clays close to the production area

  • Technical support to design the required changes in the production line

  • Assistance in assessing and adapting country regulatory standards (when indicated)

  • Activity development and design is funded up to CHF 150.000

Long term funding through the sale of CO₂-emission reductions / carbon revenues makes the investments in LC3-prodution financially viable and reduces the overall risks into the investment
