Under the scheme, the rooftop solar PV systems – optionally complemented by battery energy storage systems (BESS) – will be installed across residential households, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities. These systems will be displacing electricity consumption of the national grid and reduce the reliance on diesel generation during power outages, especially for commercial and industrial installations.

The activity focusses on installations below 1 MW capacity, designed primarily for self-consumption. In doing so, it will expand access to clean, affordable, and decentralized energy services across Ghana.

By leveraging an expected investment of more than USD 200 million (including the total estimated amount of direct investments triggered by the implementation of the activity, as well as the expected carbon revenues from the KliK Foundation) and by delivering an expected additional 135 MWp of installed capacity, NCEP will represent a significant step toward sustainable energy expansion.

The technology is recognised under the “Automatic Additional Technology List” of Ghana’s Framework on International Carbon Markets and Non-Market Approaches, provided the installation capacity remains below 1 MW.
